>Testify: Dynamite Dills

>

As I’m chugging along in the blogworld I’ve been trying to order and try as many different pickles as my checking account allows…and as many as my refridgerator allows. Back in June I ordered four jars of pickles from Dynamite Dills and due to some slight confusion and a short supply of their habanero flavored dills it took awhile for my pickles to arrive but my patience was greatly rewarded when they emailed me and said they would send me a “few extra jars”…the very next day I received my box of pickles and to my astonishment and delight, they sent me a case of TWELVE jars, six of the habanero and six of the jalapeno flavored ones.

I opened one of each flavor at work and proceeded to make a meal out of them. Both flavors are strong-the jalapeno ones are just plain tasty, even if you are scared of “spicy” things (wimps), you’ll like these, they’re not hot, just flavorful. The habanero ones though, whoa, they are HOT like you’d expect them to be, I mean, come on, they are HABANERO flavored!

Since Dynamite Dill was so generous with my order and the small jars are just perfect for carrying around in my purse, I’ve been sharing them with coworkers who like the jalapeno flavored ones for adding to sandwiches and salads and with friends who like the habanero flavored ones with their cold beers.

I’m worse than a Jesus freak handing out chick tracts.

>Pickle Crack

On a regular basis my mother is nice enough to ship me a box or two filled with some of my favorite southern “goods”. A usual shipment will be cans of Ro*tel and bags of Golden Flake brand pickle and hot chips, but today there was a little somethin’ special in there…one teeny, tiny jar of Wickles Pickles.

I’d had Wickles before but it had been awhile and lately my mother has been talking them up quite a bit and felt I needed to re-visit them. She says they are soo good that when she eats them, she has to limit herself to just 4 at a time, otherwise she would eat the whole jar…ok, I cracked open the jar, I ate one, oh my dear lord, I have a new pickle problem…

Wickles are made in Dadeville, Alabama and after doing a little research, I’m wondering how come I wasn’t born into this family and if it’s not too late to marry into it. These thick-sliced pickles are sweet, but not too sweet,(I don’t even like sweet pickles!) because they’re made with both white vinegar and cider vinegar, and they have a serious heat to them, a nice, slow burn which would thrill me to no end if I where to sit and eat the whole jar and set my mouth on FIRE, which is exactly what I plan to do as soon as I get more of these. I ate half the jar for lunch at work, took them to the bar with me after work and ate a few and a few beers later I was pouring the juice into my beer. What? Ok, fine, YOU order some Wickles and tell me these aren’t pickle CRACK.

Wickles come in 16 oz jars and 64 oz jars. Guess which one I’m ordering?

>Going to Extremes

>
When I read that Pringles chips had a new “extreme” flavor-“Screamin’ Dill Pickle” I instantly regretted that I no longer lived in the South…but only for a minute there.I knew I wouldn’t find these in New York and was positive I could find them in ANY gas station from Memphis to New Orleans. So the next thing I did was send out an email to the few people down there with the internets-ever heard of it? Well, it’s new, and for me, it’s just a fancy pickle finder.

My friend Bobby, (that boy ain’t right), immediately answered my cry for help and put on his flip flops and ran down to the Jitney Jungle and bought me 3 cans of the pickle Pringles AND 3 bags of Zapps Cajun Dill Gator-Tators. Before he got to the P.O. and mailed them to me he stopped at the mall and had some glamour shots taken.

My sister told me not to “break my neck” trying to find pickle Pringles because she didn’t think they were that good…but I LOVED them. One of my favorite snacks is regular ‘ol Pringles dipped in pickle juice, so this just saved me a step! I guess she’s devoted to the gold standard of pickle chips-Golden Flake Pickle Chips.

Thank you Bobby. You’re the best, no matter what Scott Rogers says about you.
