Recession Pickles

Times are hard out there for everyone and it's too late in the season to make your OWN pickles so let me suggest my favorite, budget-friendly, homemade pickles.

www.kanns.com

I have a special place in my heart for Keith and Mary Ann, who refer to themselves as "Square Headed Germans", makers of these great Hill Country Homestyle pickles made in Fredricksburg, TX. These were the very first pickles I ever ordered online and for years were my main pickle "fix". I love the Hot Garlic Dills and the Habanero Dills. The pickles are whole, crunchy and on the small size, which is great for snacking.

After I moved to New York I continued to order from Keith and Mary Ann and shared them with my co-workers and roommates. I found that most people think you're really weird for importing pickles and then they just want to EAT them all. My co-worker George even made a special trip to Fredricksburg while in Texas visiting family and bought more pickles directly from a shop in town and my roommate Maggie confessed to me that she had been sneaking my habanero dills for her Pickle Martinis and could I please order more for her the next time.

A 32 oz. jar is $6.50 so you can afford to be generous. Order lots and try all the other stuff too, they have pickled okra, carrots and garlic and lots of amazing salsas too!
